DNA evidence can be used to identify a perpetrator or exonerate the innocent. With this kit, students use real DNA as evidence and play the role of crime scene investigator. Six DNA samples are included: one sample has been collected from a “crime scene” and five others from various “suspects.” Each sample is digested using a mixture of two DNA restriction enzymes to generate a distinct set of DNA fragments for each sample. The resulting DNA fragments are separated by agarose gel electrophoresis and visualized to determine “whodunit”!
